Company history
Control Systems & Equipment was first formed in 1971 as a family partnership. The firm began as a distributor of ASEA motor control gear. Rapid expansion & a requirement for non-standard motor starters led to the creation of a manufacturing department. Further expansion took the firm forward and now provided industry with bespoke control panels & control panels as well as acting as a franchised distributor for many major manufacturers. In 1987 ASEA merged with Brown Boveri to form ABB Ltd. Control Systems & Equipment became the first distributor of ABB low voltage control gear.
The firm now traded as two divisions, Control Systems & Equipment- providing engineered solutions & manufacturing and CSE Industrial Electrical Distributors- supplying components to industry. Many franchises have been added to our portfolio, including, Eldon, Bussman, Tranilamp, Erico, Gewiss & Danfoss. The continued expansion of the firm enabled it to establish a branch in Southhampton in 1997 to serve it's customer base more effectively. Steady & continued growth enabled the firm to be incorporated into a limited company in 2001.
Control Systems & Equipment developed its products in the petro-chem industry and is now a major supplier of equipment to the market sector with products including distribution boards, main incomer units, submersible pump interface and lighting controls. The customer base includes; BP, Shell, Texaco, Esso, Morrisons, Sainsburys & Sommerfields. Since 1993, the company has been involved with the rail industry due to its close relationship with ABB & Bussman. The Power Box range of products was developed & expanded & it has subsequently become the preferred industry standard for power management in location cases. Other products that have been developed include the REEBox for power distribution in REB's & the GEMMinii range of components that are used in the manufacture of FSP's.
The demand for cable distribution from CSE Industrial Electrical Distributors became so great that a seperate division was formed in 2007 and moved into its own dedicated warehouse & offices. It now runs a seperate operation known as CSE Cables. This has proved to be a very successful division supplying customers both home & abroad with specialist cables, many of them branded CSE. Also in 2007, the opportunity arose to establish a sheet metal fabrication facility. Ever since the company was formed, bespoke enclosures had been out sourced, including the enclosures for the Power Box. A new division was formed, Woking Fabrication. This division specialises in the supply of stainless steel & mild steel enclosures, both for in house use & to an existing customer base. The firm has embraced the World Wide Web since its early days & has a large presence on it. We have used this medium extensively to market & expand the business & it has proved to be very successful as well as providing our customers the opportunity to purchase on-line.
The growth of the company reached a point where the directors recognised that the company was no longer a small family run buisness, but was now a medium sized company. An independant strategic review was commissioned. The results of the review were analysed & the conclusion was that the company was fundamentally very sound but in order to continue the growth, a number of changes were recommended. These changes have been implemented & the company now has the financial & management structures in place to ebable the company to go forward into the next phase of its growth.
