Petrol Forecourt Distribution Boards for BP Bovis
Control Systems & Equipment Ltd. was formed in 1971 as a distributor of motor
control gear. Quick expansion and a requirement for specialised non-standard
motor starters led to the creation of a manufacturing division. Further
expansion took the company forward and provided industry with bespoke control
panels and PLC controls systems as well as acting as a franchised distributor
for many major manufacturers including ABB Ltd.
The expansion of the Company necessitated several moves of premises,
culminating
with the move in 1982 to the present modern facilities in Bourne End,
near High Wycombe, Bucks. To enable us to service our Customer base more
effectively, an branch office was established in Southampton in 1997. From
humble beginnings we now have 21 employees. |

Our design and manufacturing capabilities came to the attention of Mobil Oil in
the early 90’s. We were invited to redesign the distribution boards for
their filling stations. The requirement was to engineer a system that was small
as possible but at the same time practical, easy to install, safe, complied with
all the special regulations relating to filling stations and be cost
effective. All these objectives were achieved and we went on to produce over a
hundred units. The basic structure of the distribution board was expanded to
cater for larger sites and many have been supplied and installed on motorway
service areas.
Our expertise in the design and manufacture of filling station distribution boards came to the attention of
the Industry and we have now supplied them to other major oil Companies as well
as independent forecourt retailers.
When Mobil incorporated with BP, we maintained our relationship with then
and continued to provide BP and latterly BP/Bovis with distribution boards.
During this period the design was constantly evolving to incorporate BP’s
latest innovations and shop requirements. One of these innovations was the
addition of LPG to the forecourt. We were able to assist BP Bovis with their
development and produced a PLC control system on which the
‘Connect’ programme of filling station LPG refurbishments and new builds are
based.
Other developments included the incorporation of controls and control gear for the
submersible petrol pumps in the tanks. This involved the integration of leak
detection, product level and dispenser authorisation into the control system. A
special pump interface module was developed for this application and is now a
standard product for BP Bovis.Automatic control of forecourt lighting and
signage has been an integral feature of our design, reducing
energy consumption on BP forecourts. We manufacture a controller, 'The Aurora' which is
specifically tailored to forecourt requirements and is fitted as standard on all BP
redevelopments. |
